3 year agoNew Zealand PM: Tonga's capital Nuku'alofa has some significant damage and is "covered in thick film of volcanic dust" but conditions there are "calm & stable", some power has been restored and local mobile phones there are working

3 year agoTwo clips of the tsunami. Geolocated them to a shoreline community on the outskirts of Tonga's capital, Nuku'alofa, less than 50 miles south of the volcano. First view faces west, low sun matches the time too

3 year agoTsunami observation update: A Tsunami is occurring. Remember- the first wave may not be that largest. Move away from the shore and head to high ground
3 year ago7:50am at Windansea - the beach is taken over by water but it's mainly because of high surf and high tide. So it's hard to tell any impacts of a tsunami wave at this beach except the overall high levels of water. There are a lot of people here watching, they likely got the alert
